Bloodwood Avenue

The aim of this project was to create a home that the architecture is initially understated, but then have detail that gradually unfolds as you spend time in and around the house. It is a 3 bedroom ocean side holiday home designed for a couple with a separate 2 bedroom guest area as a separate building. All linked by covered decks. All rooms of the main building opens onto the large ocean side patio.
The home is designed to be adaptable, with different zones to allow enjoyment all year round.

Through clever design we managed to achieve a 3.5m cantilevered roof overhang on the ocean side of the main building and a 2.5m on the lee-ward side. This same design created an internal feature of a reversed raked ceiling. Keeping on with different roof design we used a “Batwing” shaped roof over the Southern Patio area & a trapezoidal shaped skillion over the guest quarters.

Other features to look for:
Specially fabricated shaped colorbond fascia & gutters. Sliding screen on the Southern Patio. This has been fabricated to slide on rollers with a custom guide to the underside of the handrail.

Covenants limit external lighting to prevent misguiding turtles coming in to lay their eggs. The solution to this was to run LED strip lighting recessed into the underside of the handrail.

This is the result you can get with a builder that likes to do things differently and is very involved in the design process that has a client that once sold on the design was happy to let the builder run

WINNER! WINNER!

We are extremely happy to announce that we have won 2 of the Building Designers Association of Queensland (BDAQ) Sate Awards for this project. 1- Most innovative design 2- Best use of timber.  We also received a commendation for Residential Design in the build cost of $501,000 to $750,000. We will now be off to the National Awards Dinner in Melbourne in October to see if we can add to growing list of awards this project has won.
