The brief was for a beautiful modern home overlooking the river & ocean. This was our client’s dream home and they knew exactly what they wanted to achieve from this design. Our close working relationship ensured that the client’s requirements were successfully met.
Located only meters from a river and ocean, there was an existing house on the block of land that was to be removed before construction could start. The new house was designed to capture the coastal/river frontage from the front of the block and provide a modern feel. Items on the client’s wish list included a large master bed with a large walk-in-robe and Ensuite, Bar area, Large entertainment areas, Rumpus room and four bedrooms.
The ground floor provides the living areas with two guest bedrooms and a single lock up garage. The kitchen design is a chef’s dream with a massive bench/work space and a separate butler’s pantry and Scullery. The kitchen adjoins the Dining area and leads to a large patio and out onto the glistening pool.
The downstairs Rumpus room and Living areas are separated by cavity sliding doors to allow the space to be used as a larger entertaining room or two separate intimate areas. To enhance the space further, bi-fold doors from the rumpus room opened up onto the front patio and pool, creating one large entertaining zone.
To maximize the water views for our client, the upper level consists of the fourth bedroom, the master suite and bar. Getting the master suit right was our client’s number one priority – in particular the walk-in-robe. The master bedroom opens into a large Ensuite which has a bath, double shower and separate toilet, this then leads to the extra large walk in robe. We ensured the design enabled the walk in robe to later be converted to another bedroom if the property was to be sold. To take advantage of the views and cooling breezes, a large sliding door opens from the master bedroom up onto the upper verandah. The upstairs area also contains its own bar/kitchen area to indulge our client’s entertaining wishes.
The single garage was kept to the rear of the block to enable the house to take full advantage of the views and breezes that could be appreciated from front of house. The façade provides a modern view by using a skillion roof, square columns, glass balustrade and innovative cladding solutions.
